Instructor Internship Program

Welcome to the ProACT Critical Care Academy Internship Program—a comprehensive opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience and become skilled instructors in health, preparedness, and safety training. Our internship program is designed to provide aspiring educators with the training, mentorship, and practical experience necessary to excel in the field of emergency preparedness training.

Program Structure

Become a Certified American Red Cross Instructor

Interns will receive free instructor training to earn a certificate as a Certified American Red Cross Instructor.

Gain Co-Teaching Experience

Upon certification, interns will co-teach at least 1 full blended learning or instructor-led course with an experienced instructor.

Opportunity for Independant Teaching

Interns will teach 6 full courses—either instructor-led or blended learning format—with a minimum of 4 enrolled participants in each class within the 12-month internship period.

  • Duration: 12 months (flexible completion time)

  • Location: Madison, WI area - interns must be able to complete required teaching hours and assignments locally in Madison

  • Compensation: Hourly rate for teaching hours - $16.23 (GS-05)

  • Expected Hours: Varies, and is flexible

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Passion for health, safety, and preparedness training.

  • Willingness to purchase own instructor's manual and undergo training.

  • Commitment to teaching 6 full courses with a minimum of 4 enrolled participants in each class within the 12-month internship period.

Individual Project/Initiative

As part of the internship program, interns will be required to complete a single project or initiative aimed at providing health, safety, and preparedness training to a local group, organization or business. This hands-on experience will allow interns to apply their newly acquired skills and knowledge in a real-world setting while making a positive impact on the community. This project will be guided and supported by experienced instructors throughout the internship program. This will count towards the required 6 courses. 

  • After completing 6 full courses, interns will be eligible to become a full training services instructor with ProACT Critical Care Academy.

  • Opportunity to continue teaching courses and contributing to the organization's training programs.

Application Process

To apply, candidates are required to complete an online application form, which includes responding to five essay-type questions. These questions allow candidates to showcase their motivations, experiences, and aspirations related to becoming skilled instructors in the field.

Upon submission of the online application, candidates' responses undergo an initial review by the internship selection committee. Successful candidates may then be invited for an interview to further discuss their qualifications and suitability for the internship position. Additionally, candidates will undergo a background check to verify the information provided in their application and assess their suitability for the internship.
